U.S. Senator Cory Booker marries Alexis Lewis in 2 weddings

U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NY) married real estate investment firm executive Alexis Lewis over the Thanksgiving holidays not once but twice — in Washington, D.C. and Booker’s hometown of Newark, N.J..

Booker, who represents the Garden State, announced his engagement back in September when he called Lewis his partner and best friend.

“Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life,” he wrote on social media. “She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love.”

The couple’s first celebration took place on Monday at a Newark courthouse, according to People magazine. The couple’s parents joined them as witnesses.

A second, private ceremony took place Saturday in Washington, D.C., Lewis’ hometown. Booker also a D.C. native, was raised in Harrington Park, New Jersey.

“Overflowing with gratitude. We said ‘I do’ in two places that shaped us — Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’s hometown of Washington, D.C. — first at the courthouse, then with our families,” the couple shared in an Instagram post Sunday.
