George Santos make ‘closet’ joke about newlywed Cory Booker

Disgraced former Congressman George Santos took a swipe at Cory Booker after the Senator from New Jersey got married over the extended Thanksgiving weekend.

“I married my first wife before I came out of the closet and there is nothing wrong with that,” Santos posted on X alongside a wedding photo of Booker and his new wife Alexis Lewis.

Booker and Lewis celebrated a wedding in Washington D.C. on Saturday followed by another nuptial in Newark on Monday. The pair had dated for around 16 months, according to NJ Advance Media.

There’s long been buzz about Booker’s sexuality, which he’s done little to discourage.

“People who think I’m gay, some part of me thinks it’s wonderful,” he told the Washington Post in a 2013 interview. “Because I want to challenge people on their homophobia.”

Despite a nearly two-year romance with actor Rosario Dawson that ended in 2022, Booker rarely spoke about his personal life before announcing his engagement to Lewis in September.

Santos, who was expelled from the House of Representatives after lying about significant portions of his past while running for election in 2022, married a Brazilian woman whom he divorced after seven years of marriage, according to the New York Times.

The openly gay former politician took a husband in 2021, according to the gossip site Hollywood Life.

Santos was sent to prison in July to begin an 87-month sentence after pleading guilty to fraud charges in 2024, but was released in October when President Trump commuted his sentence.

Conservative pundit Meghan McCain expressed appreciation Sunday night for Santos’s snide remark about Booker.

“Never, ever, ever quit this platform my friend,” she posted on X.

“Don’t intend to!” Santos replied.

Posting under the name Alexis Booker on Monday night, the Senator’s wife thanked the hair and make-up team that “helped launch me into the joy of an epic day.”
