Woman told cops ‘I hope he’s dead’ after slicing boyfriend’s throat

An Arizona woman accused of slicing the neck of her boyfriend allegedly told officers, “I hope he’s dead,” after they arrived to arrest her, according to court documents released Monday.

Tamala Rudeseal, 52, called it her “Independence Day” after slitting the unnamed man’s neck on Thanksgiving Day, local NBC affiliate KPNX reported. The victim was hospitalized but survived the attack.

Rudeseal slit the man’s throat around 8 p.m. while he was sleeping at their home in the east Phoenix suburb of Mesa, according to police. She then called 911 and confessed to the crime, telling dispatchers she had slashed the man’s throat.

In the court documents, authorities released additional details of Rudeseal’s confession, including her answering, “Yes. God, I hope he’s dead,” when asked by responding officers if she was the culprit, local CBS affiliate KPHO reported.

“I’m sick of what you do to me, today is Independence Day,” she could be heard saying during the 911 call, according to KPNX. “Yes, I did just try to murder you.”

The victim was cut from his left ear to the middle of his neck, investigators said. Rudeseal told officers, “I planned on doing the other side and then stabbing him in the heart,” KPHO reported.

The man told police the two had been together for 11 years. He said Rudeseal often became aggravated during the holidays, and that they had fought earlier in the day.

Rudeseal remained behind bars Tuesday on $1 million bail after being charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
