Conservative commentator Meghan McCain is taking issue with another right-wing pundit making fun of her weight during an interview with internet personality host Tucker Carlson.
The comments McCain found offensive were made by British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos during a Wednesday interview in which she was referred to as “fat” several times and also called “crazy” and self-loathing.
McCain, a 41-year-old blogger and TV personality, posted on X Thursday night that she was “aware” of the insult.
“Yes, I am very fat, I’m almost 9 months pregnant with my third child,” she wrote. “I am also very happy.”
McCain accused Carlson of claiming to be a Christian while promoting behavior she believes contradicts that ideology on his popular web program.
The former “The View” host pointed to the sexist rhetoric as “a classic example of why the right has such a problem with women voters of my generation.”
McCain told her followers she’s been teased about her weight since she entered the media world nearly 20 years ago and doesn’t need sympathy, but does find that kind of language “old, lazy [and] tired.”
“I don’t make my living off of ugliness like that and truly can’t fathom what life is like for anyone who does,” she concluded her post. “It must be very dark.”
McCain found bipartisan support for her feelings.
“If you’re not fat and happy during pregnancy, what are you even doing???” Democratic strategist Liz Smith posted.
Carlson’s production company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Several social media users clarified that the comments McCain referred to were made by Carlson’s guest and not the host.
