Law enforcement teams searching for the shooter who killed two Brown University students in their classroom Saturday are hoping the public can help them identify a suspect caught on video in Rhode Island.
“We are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in Saturday’s incident at Brown University. Please share these video clips and direct all tips to 401-272-3121,” Providence Police posted on social media Monday.
For reasons unknown, a gunman entered the Ivy League school Saturday afternoon and opened fire on students taking an economics course. At least 11 people were injured — including students Ella Cook and Muhammad Aziz Umurzokov, who died from their wounds. Authorities took a 24-year-old man from Wisconsin into custody Sunday morning, but released him the same night.
NBC News said that person was ruled out as a suspect after a ballistics check showed his firearm didn’t match the weapon used at the crime scene.
Video released Monday from a doorbell camera shows a figure dressed all in black and wearing a mask walking through a Province neighborhood. The FBI posted still images of that suspect and also asked for the public’s help.
They described that individual as “a male, approximately 5’8″ with a stocky build.” He’s considered armed and dangerous.
A $500,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
