Obamas had plans with Rob Reiner and wife the night of murders

Michelle Obama said that she and her husband, former President Barack Obama, had plans with Rob and Michele Reiner the night they were both allegedly killed by their second-born son, Nick.

The former first lady made the reveal during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Monday when asked how she was coping with the couple’s death.

“We were supposed to be seeing them that night — last night,” she said, without providing further details about their plans for the evening.

Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside their Los Angeles home Sunday morning, each of them fatally stabbed, police said. Their son, Nick, was arrested later the same night and charged with their murders. He is being without bail after previously being held on $4 million bail.

In wake of the tragedy, the 44th president posted that he and his wife were “heartbroken” by the news.

“We’ve known them for many, many years,” Michelle told Kimmel on Monday, shaking her head at the thought of the tragedy.

She also seemingly addressed comments made about Reiner by President Trump, who described the late actor as “deranged” as well as “tortured and struggling.”

“Let me just say this: Unlike some people, Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever want to know,” Obama told Kimmel, without mentioning the President specifically.

They are not deranged or crazed,” she continued. “What they have always been are passionate people who — in a time when there’s not a lot of courage going on — they were the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about. And they cared about their family. And they cared about this country. And they cared about fairness and equity. And that is the truth. I do know them.”
