New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, responding to the results of a new survey, said with a laugh that she’d “stomp” Vice President JD Vance if she and the potential 2028 Republican nominee face off in the next presidential election.
A poll published Tuesday from The Argument/Verasight shows the 36-year-old Democrat would narrowly defeat Vance in a 2028 showdown. When asked about that finding on Capitol Hill Wednesday night, Ocasio-Cortez played coy, before predicting a massacre.
“Listen, these polls, like three years out, they are what they are,” she said dismissively. “But let the record show, I would stomp him! I would stomp him!”
The Bronx native then chuckled after giving her bold response, as seen in a video posted by an editor for liberal outlet MeidasTouch News. Earlier in the day, AOC posted a link to the poll showing her defeating Vance by 2% in a national election, simply commenting, “Bloop!”
Vance is largely considered to be the frontrunner to replace his current boss, President Trump, as the Republican party’s leader in the next presidential election. Erika Kirk, the wife of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has teased that her Turning Point USA organization will throw its support behind Vance.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whom Trump has also floated as a possible contender, said in a Vanity Fair interview published Tuesday that he’d step aside if Vance gets the nod.
In addition to Ocasio-Cortez, other Democrats generating buzz ahead 2028 include California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Illinois Gov. JD Pritzker.
None of those politicians have declared their candidacy to become the nation’s 48th president. Trump, 79, is constitutionally prohibited from seeking a third term.
