The No. 1 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft is still in play.
The Giants lost their ninth straight on Sunday, 16-13, to a shorthanded Minnesota Vikings team that had flight complications on Saturday and played backup quarterback Max Brosmer for half of the game.
Interim head coach Mike Kafka had no idea how to protect Jaxson Dart from Brian Flores’ aggressive and complicated defense.
Dart didn’t complete a pass until 1:44 remaining in the second quarter. The Giants (2-13) finished with 141 total yards of offense and 13 net yards passing.
And they did not score a touchdown on offense. Their only points came on a 27-yard fumble return by Tyler Nubin late in the first half after a Brian Burns strip sack.
The Giants have two games remaining against the Raiders and Cowboys. If they lose both, they can land the No. 1 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft.
GM Joe Schoen now has a 3-24 record (.111) in the Giants’ last 27 games, a 5-27 record (.156) in the last 32 games, a 5-18-1 record (.208) against NFC East opponents, a 2-14-0 record (.125) against the Eagles and Cowboys and a 20-45-1 overall record (.307-3) in four regular seasons.
The Giants also lost left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring) and center John Michael Schmitz (hand) to injuries in Sunday’s game.
Corner Paulson Adebo recorded his first interception as a Giant, but rookie Abdul Carter lined up offsides to cancel out a 96-yard interception return for a touchdown by safety Jevon Holland.
