Death of Bronx girl, 4, likely result of accidental fall in shower: NYPD sources

The death of a 4-year-old Bronx girl appears to have been a tragic accident, the child hitting her head when she slipped while taking a shower, police sources said Monday.

Ashley Anderson-Collado, who a week earlier celebrated her birthday, was found unconscious by her mother inside the family’s apartment on Barnes Ave. near Adee Ave. in Williamsbridge about 9:15 a.m. Friday.

After the mom called 911, medics rushed to the scene and performed CPR on the girl, then took her to Jacobi Medical Center, where she underwent surgery but could not be saved.

The city Medical Examiner has not yet been determined her cause of death. But sources said cops do not suspect foul play and believe she died from head injuries suffered when she fell.

Neighbors saw little Ashley’s dad burst out in tears after learning of his daughter’s death.

“The father was pacing back and forth and he broke down,” one neighbor, who only wished to be identified as Najee, told the Daily News a day after the incident. “I asked him if everything was all right.”

A short time later, the father knocked on Najee’s door, telling her that his daughter was dead.

“I’m just like, ‘Dang,’” she said. “I’m just sad to hear it was a young girl and during the holidays. It’s sad.”
