Patriots star Stefon Diggs charged with assault, strangulation

New England Patriots star Stefon Diggs has been accused of assault and strangulation in Massachusetts, according to a report.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Dec. 2, the day after the Patriots bested the New York Giants, CBS Boston reported. They were filed on Monday in Dedham District County Court, and Diggs’ arraignment has been scheduled for January 23, which falls two days before the AFC Championship game.

Few other details on the matter have been provided, and Diggs’ lawyers are working to keep the police report sealed.

“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs,” the Patriots said in a statement.

“Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations,” it continued. “We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”
