It’s on to the WNBA now. Chris DeMarco’s time with the Golden State Warriors is officially over.
DeMarco, who the Liberty officially introduced as head coach in early December, ended his lengthy tenure with the Golden State Warriors after the team defeated the Nets, 120-107, on Monday night at Barclays Center.

The new Liberty head coach now pivots as one of the WNBA’s newest head coaches for an original franchise. And before taking on the Nets for his final NBA game, DeMarco and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr got a look at the new Liberty head coach’s office.
“First of all, we just went and saw his office, his new office,” Kerr said before DeMarco’s final game on his staff. “What a strange day for him, you know, to come to his new arena, go to his new office, come back to our locker room, help us play a game, try to win a game, and then that’s it. He’s staying here, and it’s almost surreal. So, he’s been a great coach, great friend. I’m going to miss him. Twelve years with him, and hugely valuable to our team. He’s kind of done it all. My first year he’s advanced iously… has worked on both sides of the ball, worked in player development. But he’s really become a great friend, and I really miss him. He’s a huge part of our staff, and we’re going to have to fill in the void that he leaves, both strategically and just who he is as a person, what he means to all of us.”
DeMarco joined the Warriors staff as an assistant in 2012 and eventually helped the franchise acquire four NBA championships (2015, 2017-18, 2022). The coach also began coaching the Bahamas men’s national basketball team in 2019.
Back when Kerr was assembling his staff over a decade ago, he said ex-Warriors executive Bob Myers suggested contacting DeMarco for a role.
“And as I was putting my staff together, I sat down with Chris and instantly connected and knew that I wanted him to be part of it. So that’s how it all started,” said Kerr.
The relationship blossomed and paid dividends for the Warriors. DeMarco later graduated to running the team’s defense. He’s also heralded for the development of Jordan Poole, current New Orleans Pelicans guard who helped the Golden State win a championship in 2022.
Now DeMarco hopes to bring that same success to Barclays Center with a roster fit to make a run for a WNBA championship.
Thank you, CD, for over a decade of greatness.
Tonight, we say farewell to Assistant Coach Chris DeMarco and wish him the best of luck as the NEW Head Coach of @nyliberty 💛💙 pic.twitter.com/7taY0anugp

If you ask Kerr, his assistant will have no issues running the show at Barclays Center.
“He watches everything. You know, he was constantly keeping his finger on the pulse of the game, wherever. FIBA, European basketball, he studies the trends,” Kerr said. “He loves the game, and he’s also just a great dude, like he’s really fun to be around and to collaborate with. He’s smart, but he doesn’t have to be the smartest guy in the room, and he’s seen an awful lot here, you know, in these last 14 years I guess, here. So he’s seen this team through everything, and so that experience will certainly help, but bottom line, he’s a hell of a basketball coach, he’s a great guy, he’s going to do a really good job.”
