A large cardboard box overflowing with NYPD uniforms was abandoned near Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery, cops said on Thursday.
A 911 call led police to the box containing department pants, shirts, jackets and hats on a roadside in the 66th Precinct around 8:39 p.m. Tuesday, cops said.
Video posted online shows officers taking uniforms from the box at 37th St. and Ninth Ave. in Borough Park and stuffing them into plastic bags.
The “blues” were taken to the 66th Precinct stationhouse for safekeeping, police said.
The unusual discovery fueled speculation online, with one X user noting the find nearly coincided with Mamdani’s swearing-in at midnight Thursday morning.
“This was not smart to do … these uniforms could be used in future attacks on the city,” Derick Brough commented on X. “They [police] could have articulated their disgust with mayoral selection in other ways.”
Similarly, another poster also saw a possibly sinister motive behind the curious occurrence.
“They’re definitely not from a walk out [by protesting cops],” X user Anthony commented. “Looks more like a foiled terrorist plot or something.”
