A car crash in Greenwich Village escalated into a gunfight with cops Thursday night — ending with one man critically injured, authorities said.
Police said the rain of bullets exploded on Bedford St. at Downing St. around 10:57 p.m. after cops responded to a crash at the location.
According to police, one male car occupant waved a firearm and allegedly ignored a command that he drop the weapon, opening fire instead.
Police at the scene fired back, hitting the gunman, who then went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to a nearby hospital, cops said.
There were no injuries to officers at the scene, where a gun was recovered.
