Man killed riding illegal electric bike in crash outside UN in Manhattan

A man was killed riding an illegal, high-speed electric bicycle after crashing into a barrier outside the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan, cops said Friday.

Jason Galindo, 32, was riding his E-bike heading north along the First Ave. bike lane when he lost control and collided with a barrier near E. 45th St in Midtown around 10:03 p.m. Tuesday, cops said.

Police said Galindo suffered a severe head injury in the crash. Medics rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, where he died, cops said.

Galindo’s bike, a HappyRun G100 Pro Electric Bicycle, is capable of reaching speeds of 50 mph, according to law enforcement.

E-bikes, E-scooters and pedal-assist bicycles are not allowed to exceed 15 mph on city streets.

An NYPD spokesman could not immediately say why Galindo’s bike was not street legal.

Galindo resided in the Elmhurst section of Queens, said police.
