Former NBA star Lamar Odom was arrested for driving under the influence in Las Vegas, officials said Sunday.
The 46-year-old Queens native was pulled over while driving more than 40 mph over the speed limit and improperly changing lanes, TMZ reported. He has since posted bail and was scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday.
Odom, who was married to Khloe Kardashian from 2009 to 2016, has a long history of substance abuse issues. He was previously busted for DUI in 2013 in Los Angeles, then reportedly went to rehab for one day. He received three years of probation in that case.
Odom has also spoken publicly multiple times about his addiction to cocaine.
“I didn’t try it until I was 24 years old, when I was on summer vacation in Miami,” Odom wrote in a 2017 Players’ Tribune article. “And … I wish I could tell you there was a reason for it. There wasn’t. It was just an asinine decision I made. If I knew that it was going to affect my life the way it did, I would’ve never even thought about it. Never. But I did it. It turned out to be a life-altering decision.”
Odom famously spent several days in a coma in 2015 after overdosing on alcohol, cocaine and marijuana in a brothel in Crystal, Nev. In a 2019 book, he revealed his heart had stopped twice and he had 12 seizures and six strokes.
“Rick James said it best. ‘Cocaine is a hell of a drug,’ ” Odom wrote in 2017. “When I was in that hospital bed, I kept thinking about all the people in my life who aren’t here anymore.”
