A man was arrested Thursday for shoving a straphanger onto the tracks at a Brooklyn subway station in an unprovoked attack, cops said.
Ivan Negron was apprehended by a keen-eyed officer who spotted him at the 14th St.-Union Square subway station in Manhattan, police said. He is charged with attempted assault for the Jan. 18 attack.
Negron’s arrest comes three days after the NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect inside a New York City subway station.
The victim, a 35-year-old man, was standing on the southbound R train platform at the 36th St. station in Sunset Park when he was suddenly pushed onto the tracks around 5 a.m., cops said.
The victim did not know his attacker and had no interaction with him prior to the assault, according to law enforcement. It wasn’t immediately clear if he climbed back onto the subway platform on his own or was helped by anyone else.
Medics transported the victim to NYU Langone Hospital with minor injuries, cops said.
Negron has five prior arrests, including a Dec. 2 bust for criminal possession of a controlled substance, when he was also charged with grand larceny for allegedly stealing a 26-year-old woman’s bag worth more than $1,000 on Sept. 5, police said.
