President Trump derided Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) as a “fraud” Tuesday night before suggesting the lawmaker arranged an attack in which she was sprayed with an unknown substance by an audience member during a town hall event.
“I don’t think about her. I think she’s a fraud,” Trump, who has previously called for Omar to be either jailed or deported, told ABC News when asked if he had seen video of the incident. “She probably had herself sprayed, knowing her.
“I haven’t seen it. No, no. I hope I don’t have to bother,” he added.
Anthony Kazmierczak, 55, was sitting in the front row of Omar’s town hall in North Minneapolis when he jumped up and began ranting after she called for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and demanded the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Kazmierczak then shot a mysterious amber substance from a syringe at the congresswoman’s chest before being subdued by security.
“We will continue,” Omar said after the incident, declining suggestions by her staff that she seek medical attention. “This f—ing asshole is not getting away with this.”
“I’m ok. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work,” Omar wrote on X after the event. “I don’t let bullies win. Grateful to my incredible constituents who rallied behind me. Minnesota strong.”
Kazmierczak was arrested and booked on suspicion of third-degree assault, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. A court appearance had yet to be scheduled.
Trump sent border czar Tom Homan to Minnesota Monday night in an attempt to de-escalate the chaos in the Twin Cities after two anti-ICE protesters were fatally shot by federal agents 17 days apart.
That same day, the president said he had a “productive” call with Democratic Gov. Tim Walz, who has repreatedly called for the removal of border enforcement officers.
Also Monday, Trump revealed that Omar, 43, is being investigated by the Justice Department and Congress after she “left Somalia with NOTHING” and is now worth tens of millions of dollars, according to her congressional financial disclosures.
Omar’s family fled Somalia for a refugee camp in Kenya during her home nation’s civil war, which has been ongoing since 1991.
The family was later granted asylum, first arriving in Arlington, Va., before moving to Minneapolis in 1997. The future congresswoman became a US citizen in 2000, though Trump has repeatedly insisted incorrectly that she is in America illegally.
