A Long Island man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that struck two brothers, killing one and critically injuring the other, officials said early Saturday.

Jonathan Shaver, 51, of Rocky Point, is accused of crashing his 2012 Honda Accord into the two victims shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday and then driving away, Suffolk County police said.

The two brothers, 31-year-old Edgar Meija and 29-year-old Omar Meija, both of Mastic Beach, were hit while changing a flat tire on their car. The vehicle was parked on the side of the road near 1180 William Floyd Parkway in Shirley.

Edgar Meija was pronounced dead at the scene. Omar Meija was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Saturday morning, police said.

Shaver is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury.

Police did not say whether he’s expected to face additional charges.

Shaver spent the night behind bars and is expected to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
