Get tickets to see Rachel Zegler, Ben Platt in ‘The Last Five Years’

It’s officially time to plan ahead to travel backwards.

Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler and and Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner Ben Platt were just announced to play Cathy and Jamie in a 25th anniversary concert staging of the heartbreaking, non-linear musical “The Last Five Years.”

As of now, the pair only have three shows lined up. They’re set to take place at:

Hollywood Bowl
Los Angeles, CA
Friday, April 3

Radio City Music Hall
New York, NY
Monday, April 6

Radio City Music Hall
New York, NY
Tuesday, April 7

Before that, Zegler and Platt will perform seven shows at the West End’s London Palladium on March 24-29.

Jason Robert Brown, the popular musical’s creator, is directing and conducting all ten concerts.

For the uninitiated, “The Last Five Years” follows the ups and downs of writer Jamie Wellerstein and thespian Cathy Hiatt’s five-year relationship — hence the title — in a dizzying way. Without spoiling too much, Jamie moves forward while Cathy goes backward.

Musical theater fans may recall that Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren assumed these roles for the recent Broadway production at the Hudson Theatre in spring 2025.

Although that production was slammed by critics (The Post’s Johnny Oleksinski called the musical “the worst of the Broadway season” last April), they recognized that, if done right, the story really comes to vivid, technicolor life.

“‘The Last Five Years’ relies on two people with excellent interpretative ability and powerhouse voices to deliver its message,” Exeunt NYC wrote in a review of the 2025 show.

“Otherwise, it’s just one long solo after another, and if each small shift in the lyric isn’t brought across, the songs begin to feel like they’re saying the same thing. As a longtime Brown devotee, I obviously love ‘The Last Five Years,’ but even I began to see the things that people often complain about. If there’s no shading to the characterizations, Cathy does feel like a shrill failwife who resents her husband’s success and Jamie does feel like an overconfident a–.”

To see if Platt and Zegler have what it takes to elevate the text, you can grab tickets to their shows as soon as today.

“The Last Five Years” cast

In the off-chance you aren’t familiar with the cast, here’s a little bit about the stage show’s co-stars:

Rachel Zegler broke out in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of “West Side Story” as María, which netted her Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy win in early 2022. Other notable films she’s appeared in include “Snow White,” “Y2K” and “The Hunger Games” while she’s also made a name for herself on the stage with her work in “Romeo and Juliet” and “Evita” on the West End.

Ben Platt first made a splash in his Tony Award-winning role as the titular Evan Hansen in “Dear Evan Hansen.” In the years since, he’s released a number of solo albums and starred in the charming indie comedy “Theater Camp” and the Netflix series “The Politician.”
