Call it the Porzingis pivot.
After trade talks for Giannis Antetokounmpo stagnated, the Golden State Warriors agreed to acquire center Kristaps Porzingis from the Atlanta Hawks for Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield, according to ESPN.
Porzingis, when healthy, provides a new big-name running mate for Stephen Curry, who turns 38 next month. The Warriors have tried to maximize their remaining years with Curry, who is still playing at an All-Star level.
But availability remains a question for Porzingis, who has been limited to 17 games this season, due in part to a chronic autonomic nervous system illness, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, or POTS.
Porzingis, 30, is averaging 17.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Golden State hopes he can account for some of the production vacated by Jimmy Butler’s season-ending ACL tear.
The Warriors had been among the most aggressive suitors for Antetokounmpo, but after reportedly making multiple unsuccessful trade offers to the Milwaukee Bucks, they moved on to Porzingis.
Kuminga, 23, had requested a trade last month following a summer-long standoff that ended when he re-signed for two years, $46.8 million as a restricted free agent mere weeks before the season.
