Toddler broke away from parents before fatally struck by BMW driver in Queens parking garage

The man behind the wheel of a BMW that fatally struck a 1-year-old boy in a Queens parking garage is not expected to be charged with a crime, police said Monday.

Investigators believe the 29-year-old driver of the 2025 BMX X4 did not see little Imron Bakhtiyorov after the toddler broke free from his parents about 7:40 p.m. Saturday in the Rego Park garage, according to police sources.

The driver and the victim’s family live in the same apartment building just several floors apart next door to the garage at 98th St. near 62nd Drive, police sources said.

Medics rushed Imron to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens but he could not be saved.

The driver stayed at the scene.

The private parking garage is for building tenants only, according to a security officer. The garage has speed bumps and 5 mph speed limit signs.
