The year’s first shooting in the New York City subway system proved fatal as a man was gunned down inside a Bronx subway station Tuesday, police said. It was also the year’s first murder in the transit system.
The 42-year-old victim was struck inside the 170th St. station at E. 170th St. and Grand Concourse in Mt. Eden at 2:56 p.m., according to law enforcement.
Medics rushed him to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition, where he died, cops said.
According to MTA sources, the shooting happened on the Manhattan-bound platform of the station, which is served by the B and D subway lines.
Police are searching for a roughly 6-foot-tall man his 40s wearing a gray parka jacket and white, blood-stained pants.
No arrest has been made.
Three people were shot in the city’s subway system last year, all in separate incidents, NYPD crime stats show. It marked a dramatic drop from 2024, when 14 people were shot in the subway.
