A woman found dead in a wooded area on the east end of Long Island last week has been identified as 63-year-old Kathleen Harrison Trent, who had been missing since late January, officials said late Monday.
Trent, of Riverhead, was reported missing by her son on Jan. 29. He told the Riverhead Town Police Department he had not heard from his mother for two days.
On Feb. 11, during a search for the missing woman, police announced the discovery of the body of an “adult female” in a wooded area on Connecticut Ave., south of River Road, in Manorville, about nine miles southwest of Riverhead.
On Monday, Suffolk County police announced the results of an autopsy by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, positively identifying the body as Trent’s.
While a cause of death remains under investigation, detectives have previously said they believed it was “criminal in nature.”
Trent is identified by local media as a “mother and grandmother.”
Suffolk County police are urging anyone with information about the incident to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
