Prolific character actor Tom Noonan had died at age 74.
The towering Connecticut native’s extensive body of film work includes appearances in “East Money,” “RoboCop 2,” “Last Action Hero,” “Heat” and “Manhunter,” the latter of which got the attention of director Fred Dekker, who cast him as Frankenstein’s Monster in 1987’s “The Monster Squad.”
Dekker announced Noonan’s death on Facebook early Wednesday morning, confirming he died on Saturday.
“He was the proverbial gentleman and scholar, and the world has lost a great talent,” Dekker wrote.
Noonan’s death was also confirmed by actor Karen Sillas in a social media post that no longer appears online, according to Deadline. Sillas, who worked with Noonan on both the play and film adaptation of “What Happened Was…” reportedly said her co-star passed away peacefully.
No cause of death was given.
In addition to his work on the big screen, where he became known for his performances as menacing villains, the 6-foot-5 actor also appeared on numerous television shows including “12 Monkeys,” “The Leftovers,” “The Blacklist” and “Damages.”
Noonan, who was from Greenwich, was married to actor Karen Young from 1992 to 1999. They shared two children.
