Yankees to retire CC Sabathia’s No. 52, plaque in Monument Park in 2026



The Yankees are adding another number to Monument Park.

The Bombers announced that they will be retiring CC Sabathia‘s No. 52 on Sept. 26 before their game against the Baltimore Orioles, the team announced on Wednesday. The ceremony will include the unveiling of Sabathia’s plaque in Monument Park.

The 2009 World Series Champion spent 11 seasons in pinstripes (2009-19), posting a 134-88 (.604) record with a 3.81 ERA and 1,700K in 307 games. The southpaw ranks fourth in strikeouts, seventh in starts, 10th in wins and 11th in innings pitched.

Sabathia came over to the Bombers before the 2009 season after departing the Milwaukee Brewers to sign a seven-year, $161 million contract with the Yanks landing them their ace on their most recent championship club.

That postseason, the Bombers went 4-1 in his five starts. The Hall of famerd the ALCS MVP Award, going 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA (16.0IP, 9H, 2ER) in their six-game series win over the Los Angeles Angels.

The success in October didn’t stop there as Sabathia went 8-4 with a 3.42 ERA (105.1IP, 40ER) in 21 games (18 starts) during postseason starts. He was even more dominant at Yankee Stadium going  5-2 with a 2.17 ERA (49.2IP, 12ER) in 10 games.

Sabathia will now have plaques in Cooperstown — as he was inducted into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 2025 — and Yankee Stadium adding to his legendary resume in baseball.
