One man killed, another seriously injured in Brooklyn construction collapse

One man was killed and another man was seriously injured after a wall collapsed at a Brooklyn construction site Thursday morning, cops said.

The victims, ages 47 and 40, were caught in the collapse at the work site, on Jefferson St. near Central Ave. in Bushwick, around 8:33 a.m., according to law enforcement.

Firefighters extracted the pair of men after finding them trapped inside a caved-in construction trench, according to an FDNY spokesman.

Medics rushed them both to Kings County Hospital, where the older victim died, cops said. The other man is listed in critical but stable condition, said police

The workers were removing debris as part of work on the building’s foundation when rubble from a neighboring building’s foundation collapsed onto the two workers, according to a Department of Buildings spokesman.

DOB issued a full stop-work order for the site, in addition to partial vacate orders for the rear yards of neighboring buildings on either side of the work site until stabilization work is completed.

The city had permitted the project to partially demolish a preexisting, two-story, two-unit dwelling, which was planned to be enlarged into a four-story, seven-unit building, a DOB spokesman said.
