Readers sound off on the Iran attack’s critics, Epstein files theories and clear streets

Dems don’t look good nitpicking a win vs. Iran

Swarthmore, Pa.: On the Sunday morning talk shows, some Democrats were trying to push back on President Trump’s decision to take out Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — a decision that, at least in the short run, appears to be highly successful.

I’m a loyal, lifelong Democrat, and I have to say that Democrats’ pushback feels inauthentic, insincere, feckless and ineffectual. Now is not the time to call Trump out for not consulting Congress or for exceeding his Article II powers. This is the time to recognize that the world today is now qualitatively and realistically safer than it was before the ayatollah was killed. Democrats don’t have to lavish praise on Trump, but their feeble attempts to push back on his procedural shortcomings to alert and include Congress in the deliberations and seek advance approval for the action fly in the face of the reality that Iranians, Americans and people worldwide are cheering Khamenei’s demise. Let Trump take a victory lap. Any negative pushback in this moment will be interpreted as a small-minded and eminently self-serving response that puts parochial party interests above the interests of the country.

There’s every reason to believe that Trump will shoot himself in the foot, likely multiple times, between now and November’s midterm elections. We Democrats just need to lie back and give him the time and space to do so. Ken Derow

Award revoked?

Hoffman Estates, Ill.: Does this mean that Trump returns the Nobel Peace Prize medal to the woman who actually won it, María Corina Machado? Jim Arneberg

Senseless savagery

Scranton, Pa.: Donnie Trump and Bibi Netanyahu blew up a school, killing dozens of kids who had nothing to do with the ayatollah’s rule. Donnie was critical of George W. Bush for his senseless war in Iraq. Sure, it was dumb, but at least Congress had George’s back. To start the new Mideast war, Donnie acted on his own with no resistance from his sycophants, who have no backbones. He campaigned on promising no changes in regime, a lie so blatant that he has even lost Marjorie Taylor-Greene. He still has his eye on the Nobel Peace Prize. If Iran doesn’t do it, he may have another surprise. Maybe he’ll admit he was a frequent visitor to Epstein’s island with many a happy time, then pledge to obliterate the island, absolving him and his pals of any crime. Vin Morabito

War of convenience

San Francisco: Mentally irregular and morally bankrupt pedophile protector Donald J. Plump is so nervous about recent Epstein files revelations that he has now, believe it or not, started a war to distract from it. Wag the dog. Jimmy Layton

Must be juicy

Brooklyn: I didn’t care that much about the Epstein files before, but I do now. If Lucifer is willing to start World War III in order to prevent the release of the remaining documents, then I want to see what other bombshells are in it. June Lowe

Dodging again

Greenburgh, N.Y.: The Epstein files become the “hottest” topic in the media and hit a little too close to home for the orange clown, so he changes the narrative by starting an endless war and putting our brave military members’ lives in danger. Let us not forget that the coward was invited to the Vietnam War several times, and each time rich daddy paid a doctor to say that his little dictator’s toe hurt so he wouldn’t have to answer Uncle Sam’s call. News flash: The Epstein files are not going away, and the victims will get their justice. No one is above the law! Steve Howe

City fools

Manhattan: This is a topsy-turvy world. The U.S. and Israel cut off the head of the snake in Tehran and eliminated top-ranking civilian and military oppressors after 47 years of a brutal, medieval theocracy that murdered Iranian dissidents by the tens of thousands and subjugated women to the status of chattel at the mercy of their fathers and husbands. While thousands of young Iranians are jubilant in the streets of Tehran and other major Iranian cities, the useful idiots in New York, L.A. and other U.S. cities are protesting the targeted bombings by U.S. and Israeli forces that ended the ayatollah’s long reign of terror. Those idiots are the primary reason Trump is president, while Kamala Harris, who condemns the military success like most of her fellow Democratic politicos, can’t even get traction in peddling her sour-grapes-loser book. Ephraim Savitt

Rally ’round the flag

Bronx: I heard Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman say something Sunday morning on TV that should apply to all in office, Dems and Repubs: “Country over party.” Makes sense to me. Support your country, the United States of America, over your party affiliation. Jimmy Durda

Previously mandated

Margate, Fla.: Voicer W. Twirley is obviously unfamiliar with Article 80 of the UN Charter, which, as an international treaty, supersedes any resolution of the Security Council or General Assembly that may conflict with it. Article 80 incorporates by reference the 1922 League of Nations Mandate for Palestine and declares that the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) is part of the 3,500-year-old indigenous “reconstituted” (emphasis supplied) homeland of the Jewish people. Richard Sherman

Sleaze-free

Sunnyside: To Voicer Nancy Maglari: As a MAGA Republican, I would be a little conscientious about throwing the word “sleazy” around. I mean, after all, Sen. Chuck Schumer has never even been mentioned in sexual assaults and abuse like your guy. The nerve. Daniel Mckevitt

Ambushed

St. Petersburg, Fla.: To Voicer Glenn O’Sullivan: A “fight” infers that two people or groups are throwing punches, rocks or snowballs at each other. If only one person or group is doing the punching or throwing, then it’s an attack, not a fight. I think that maybe the ice balls you claim to have been hit by damaged you more than you realize. On the Lower East Side where I came from, you’d be known as a schmuck! Bill Barrett

True colors

Whitestone: Since when does the mayor determine whether something is a crime or not? Since when does the mayor become the judge, jury and executioner for law enforcement? It’s pretty apparent that this mayor, as we have said in the past, is anti-law enforcement and is out to destroy New York City. Each day that goes by, more and more people are starting to realize that they voted for a failure. Gene O’Brien

Open streets

Brooklyn: Streets should be for cars, not for dining sheds. It’s bad enough that we had to give up space for bicycles. We’re losing all of our driving space. Keep things the way they were and let drivers have their roads back. Charlie Pisano
