Teen arrested with loaded gun in his waistband in Lower East Side school: NYPD

A Lower East Side school went into lockdown Tuesday as police and NYPD School Safety agents arrested a 16-year-old boy found carrying a loaded firearm inside the school, police said.

Administrators at Cascades High School on Forsyth St. near Stanton St. received an anonymous tip that the teen had a gun in his possession around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, cops said.

As the school went into lockdown, cops and school safety agents found the teen and confronted him.

The officers scuffled with the boy and wrestled him to the ground before taking him into custody, a source with knowledge of the case said.

A firearm was found in the youth’s waistband.

He was taken into custody. No injuries were reported and criminal charges weren’t immediately filed.

Cascades High School does not have metal detectors inside the school, officials said.

The arrest comes a day after an 11-year-old girl was arrested for stabbing a 12-year-old boy inside her Bronx junior high school.

The two had been arguing when the girl stabbed her classmate with a kitchen knife inside PS/IS 218 Rafael Hernandez Dual Language Magnet School, on Gerard Ave. near E. 167th St., around 11 a.m. on Monday, according to police.

The boy was taken from the school to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.

The girl was charged with assault as a juvenile and released to her parents. She’s expected to face the charges in Family Court.
