A 12-year NYPD officer died while he was deployed in Kuwait supporting Operation Epic Fury, officials said Saturday.
Officer Sorffly Davius died on Friday after he suffered a “medical episode,” the NYPD said in a post on X.
“Today, our city mourns the loss of Police Officer Sorffly Davius, who passed away on Friday following a medical episode while deployed to Kuwait with the 42nd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army National Guard,” Mayor Mamdani and NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a joint statement.
Davius joined the NYPD in 2014, when he was assigned to the 79th Precinct in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant.
He served in the 42nd Infantry Division in the U.S. Army National Guard, rising to the rank of major, cops said.
His cause of death was not immediately provided.
“Devastated by the loss of Major Davius, a true Citizen Soldier, devoted husband, and father,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said on X. “I’ve personally conveyed my condolences to his wife and am keeping his loved ones in my thoughts. We’re continuing to pray for the safety of all who protect us, at home and abroad.”
Operation Epic Fury, the U.S. military effort to topple Iran’s regime by taking out its leadership and crippling its military installations, kicked off with an aerial bombing assault on Feb. 28. Israel is conducting a parallel military campaign against Iran called Operation Roaring Lion.
