One of Apple’s most popular devices is now obsolete.
If you have a second-generation Apple Watch Series 2, consider it an antique. The tech giant has scrapped the device, both the stainless steel and aluminum versions, officially putting the device on its list of “obsolete” products.
The $269 device was released in 2016, and now those who own it won’t have any support from Apple should something go wrong.
It was a highly anticipated product when it made its debut, thanks to added waterproofing and built-in GPS.
Apple explained that products are considered obsolete about seven years after the company stops distributing them.
“Apple discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products, and service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products,” according to the website.
However, a more expensive, ceramic version of the second-generation Apple Watch Series 2, which retailed for $369, has not made the list yet, so Apple should still provide services for the product.
Meanwhile, the only Apple Watch products listed on Apple’s “vintage” product list are the second-generation aluminum Apple Watch Series 1 in both sizes. Products are considered vintage when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than five but less than seven years ago.
Earlier this year, Apple put its last-ever iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle models on the obsolete list, as well as the iPhone 6.
The iPhone X Max and the iPhone 6s Plus have also been added to the vintage list.
