Kendrick Lamar unexpectedly dropped his sixth studio album, ‘GNX’ on Friday.
The “Not Like Us” rapper released the surprise 12-track project along with a brief YouTube video. The album is light on features with the exception of two tracks, “Luther” and “Gloria,” which feature SZA.
For months, rumors circulated that the hip hop artist was possibly working on a new album in the aftermath of his infamous beef with Drake, the two hip hop artists exchanging multiple diss tracks back-and-forth between earlier this year.
Lamar addresses the feud in the opening track titled, “wacced out murals.”
The album also includes a new track called “heart pt. 6,” which has the same title as Drake’s diss track released in May.
The upcoming Super Bowl halftime performer also addressed complaints that he was chosen to headline the game in New Orleans over Lil Wayne. “I used to bump ‘Tha Carter 3. I held my Rollie chain proud. Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down,” he rapped referencing Lil Wayne’s 2008 album.
He continued: “Got the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me.”
The album rounds out a massive year for the “Humble” artist, who many believe won the feud with Drake after the release of the hit record, “Not Like Us,” instantly becoming one of the biggest hits of the year. The track hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and garnered 5 Grammy nominations.
