Woman killed by passing car after jumping out of moving Uber on Long Island Expressway

A 35-year-old woman was killed early Saturday after she jumped out of a moving Uber on the Long Island Expressway in Queens and was struck by a passing vehicle that kept going, police said.

The Uber driver’s gray Volkswagen was heading east along the Long Island Expressway toward the Kissena Blvd. overpass in Kew Gardens at about 1:40 a.m. when the woman, who was seated in the back seat, opened the door and jumped out of the moving rideshare vehicle.

She landed on the asphalt then was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene, cops said.

The woman died at the scene. Her name was not immediately released as cops tracked down family members.

The 45-year-old Uber driver immediately stopped the Volkswagen and remained at the scene. No criminal charges were immediately filed.

Cops blocked off at least one eastbound lane of the LIE as they conducted their investigation.

An email to Uber for comment was not immediately returned.
