The Jets could be without their starting running back against the Seahawks this weekend.
Breece Hall did not practice on Wednesday because of a knee injury he suffered in Week 11 against the Colts. He had some soreness last week during the bye and on Tuesday and his status for this Sunday is up in the air.
On Tuesday, the Jets signed Zonovan “Bam” Knight, who played in seven games for the team in 2022, to the practice squad. Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich is hopeful Hall will play against Seattle.
“We’re just going to protect him from himself a little bit,” Ulbrich said before Wednesday’s practice. “We’ll see how the week goes along.”
Despite the Jets ranking 30th in rushing, Hall has been one of the team’s best players this season. In 11 games, Hall has rushed for 632 yards and four touchdowns. He also has registered 46 receptions for 401 yards and two touchdowns.
If Hall does not play, Jets rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis will have an increased role. Allen has run for 229 yards and two touchdowns this year, while Davis has just 18 yards on four carries.
Left tackle Tyron Smith also didn’t practice on Wednesday. He has been dealing with a neck injury since the team’s Week 10 loss to the Cardinals. Rookie Olu Fashanu started for Smith in the loss against the Colts and appears to be in line to receive his second career start at left tackle.
Ulbrich told reporters Smith is an injured reserve candidate, which would sideline him for four games.
“Just not enough improvement at this point,” Ulbrich said about Smith. “It’s really become apparent that we might have to do what’s best for Tyron in that way. But still collecting information.”
The good news injury-wise for the Jets is that linebacker and captain C.J. Mosley practiced. Mosley has been dealing with a herniated disk that has kept him out of the last four games.
