Denzel Washington is a blind spot on “Pop Culture Jeopardy!”
Nine “Jeopardy!” alums competed on the third episode of the new spinoff series hosted by Colin Jost and totally flubbed the Final Jeopardy question about the Oscar winner, 69.
In the category “Acting directors,” the three teams of three were given the clue, “He’s directed himself in movies in which he played a professor, a sanitation worker & a psychiatrist.”
Heading into Final Jeopardy, The Punny Goddesses were trailing in third place with 4,800 points, behind Esprit Top 3 with 10,800 points and The Personality Hires with 30,600 points.
The Punny Goddesses guessed Jerry Lewis, which was incorrect.
However, they wagered zero points so they stayed at their 4,800 total.
“In a way, you’re right, in terms of the wager,” Jost joked.
Esprit Top 3 wrote down M. Night Shyamalan as their answer which was wrong, as well.
They wagered all of their 10,800 points — bringing their total down to zero.
Last up, The Personality Hires were similarly stumped by the question. They guessed George Clooney but knew that they were wrong.
Jost confirmed the right answer was Washington. He noted that the famed actor played a professor in “The Great Debaters,” a sanitation worker in “Fences,” and a psychiatrist in “Antwone Fisher.”
“Very difficult one,” Jost said.
Ultimately, The Personality Hires only wagered 139 points, so they won the game with 30,461 points.
The team, which was made up of three second-place finishers from “Jeopardy!,” celebrated their big victory.
“Pop Culture Jeopardy!” premiered its first three episodes on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday.
Jost was announced as the Sony Pictures-produced show’s host in August.
“What is: I’m excited,” the “Saturday Night Live” star quipped in a press release.
Fans weighed in on the first three episodes of the show in a Reddit discussion thread on Wednesday — and there was a mix of positive and negative reviews.
“The players are definitely taking it seriously while having a good time, and Jost is pretty great at the podium!” one fan wrote.
Another person said they “genuinely love every aspect of this show so far,” including that it has a mix of old and new pop culture questions.
“Colin Jost is a really good host. I’m enjoying him immensely to be honest,” added a different viewer.
But other fans said they were less impressed with the new show.
“I will say I was kind of meh about it overall, by the third episode I just felt kind of bored with the whole thing,” one fan admitted. “I’m only 38 and feel like this production is aimed at a generation younger than I am, so maybe I’m not the audience here.”
Another viewer added, “I think my biggest gripe is the pacing. I can appreciate then wanting to have dumber questions, but its annoying when it seems the show taking much longer then it should.”
Somebody else said that the show felt “underproduced” compared to the original “Jeopardy,” which has been on the air since 1964.
New episodes of “Pop Culture Jeopardy”! drop every Wednesday on Prime Video.
