A Tennessee state senator reportedly wetted himself during a DUI arrest in Georgia.
Video of Sen. Ken Yager appears to confirm the 77-year-old lawmaker urinated in his pants during a field sobriety test where he appears very confused by instructions coming from a state trooper.
That footage, obtained by News Channel 5 in Nashville, shows the Republican lawmaker struggling to walk in a straight line. The front of his tan trousers seem to be soaked by an apparent liquid that also left a streak down his left leg.
Yager, who chairs his state’s Senate Republican Caucus, was booked into a Georgia jail Tuesday night. According to the Tennessean, he’s accused of being involved in a hit and run crash while driving under the influence.
The senator’s office told that outlet “an unfortunate incident” had occurred and Yager planned to cooperate “fully” with investigators. He could be forced to step down from his position as party chairman if indicted, according to the Tennessean. The Mountain Press said he’s expected to begin his fourth term in that position in January
State troopers found Yager after being alerted that a mid-size Ford SUV they were looking for in connection to an earlier incident was spotted in a grocery store parking lot. When they arrived, medical workers were reportedly tending to Yager, who’d fallen to the ground.
The senator admitted to police he’d had “a couple glasses of wine” when they smelled liquor on his breath, according to the Tennessean. Authorities said he urinated during that encounter.
Yager was first elected the Tennessee State Senate in 2008. He’s served on several committees including the state’s Finance, Ways and Means Committee.
