3 keys to a Giants win over the Saints

SCORE MORE EARLY

The Saints have outscored their opponents, 174-124, in the first halves of games this season. The Giants have been outscored by opponents, 151-84, in the opening two quarters. Brian Daboll’s lowest-scoring team in the league unsurprisingly struggles to get on the board and in the end zone early. If they can’t score and keep the fans engaged during Sunday’s first half, though, that’s how a Giants home game turns into an empty MetLife Stadium.

STAY MOTIVATED

The Giants’ most important veterans to their success at the start of this season were Dexter Lawrence, Andrew Thomas and Daniel Jones. Now Jones is on the Vikings, and Lawrence and Thomas are out for the year. The Giants’ last home game, a pathetic 30-7 loss to the Buccaneers, showed poor effort on the field and caused a locker room eruption after it. More adversity Sunday, if they can’t overwhelm a Saints team that already fired head coach Dennis Allen, might be too much to take.

INTERCEPT A PASS

Any turnover will suffice, but the Giants defense desperately needs an interception specifically. Get this: The Giants’ Interception, a single INT through 13 weeks, ranks 798th out of 798 NFL teams in a season since the year 2000. Saints QB Derek Carr has thrown only four this season, including none in New Orleans’ last four games. The Giants need to generate juice from somewhere. Finally getting their hands on the football would be a start.
