Rumors swirling Juan Soto close to making free agency decision

Juan Soto may make his free agency decision as soon as Sunday night, according to baseball’s rumor mill.

“Soto situation appears to be coming to a head this evening,” SNY’s Andy Martino posted on social media.

The Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Dodgers are considered the contenders for Soto’s services, with the Mets and Yankees seen as the most-likely suitors for the slugger’s services.

“Yankees deserve credit for apparently going well beyond their comfort zone at $750-760M for Soto but word now is Cohen is going to $800M. If so he’ll be alone,” Daily News columnist Bill Madden wrote on X.

Soto is looking to sign a larger contract than Shohei Ohtani‘s record-setting 10-year, $700 million pact the Japanese superstar signed with the Dodgers last offseason.

Soto slashed .288/.419/.569 with 41 home runs and 109 RBI in his first year in pinstripes following a blockbuster trade to the Bronx Bombers from the San Diego Padres.
