Wake up!
“Grab a brush and put on a little makeup” because System of a Down is coming to New Jersey for the first time since 2012.
Serj Tankian and co. are scheduled to headline at East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 28 with special guests Korn, Polyphia and Wisp.
This stadium gig is part of a three-show mini-tour for the band. The “Chop Suey” rockers are also slated to headline at Chicago’s Soldier Field on Aug. 31 with Avenged Sevenfold and Toronto’s Rogers Stadium on Sept. 3 with Deftones.
Polyphia and Wisp will serve as the opening act at all concerts.
The three shows are all the band has scheduled for next year. According to Tankian’s memoir, they typically keep their tour schedule light due to his chronic back pain. Case in point, they only played two shows last year- a headlining gig at Las Vegas’ Sick New World and a one-off at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park with Deftones and Mars Volta in August.
“Tankian’s range and gutteral howl remained intact, and he was ever the anti-authority evangelist as he closed his eyes and raised his hand during songs with themes comprising war, riot-police abuse and over-incarceration,” SFGate wrote.
