A body pulled from a creek in South Jersey on Monday matches the description of an 84-year-old retired teacher who disappeared Saturday morning, authorities said.
Alan Levin, of Galloway Township, was last seen alive by family members at his home about 10 miles north of Atlantic City.
Emergency personnel using drones spotted a body on the banks of Nacote Creek, near where Levin’s vehicle was found on a bridge, NJ.com reported. The car, a black Honda CRV, was located on the bridge carrying Atlantic County Road 610 across the creek.
Levin’s cause of death and other circumstances surrounding it remained unclear Wednesday. Police said they did not yet confirm Levin’s identity, but his son posted about the news on Facebook.
“On behalf of my family, I want to thank all of you for rallying around my father,” Kevin Levin wrote. “Unfortunately, we received the worst news possible this morning about dad. We ask that you give us some space to deal with our grief. Please know that we are all together.”
Levin was a former teacher at Absegami High School in Galloway Township. His family said they last saw him at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning and spent all weekend looking for him.
Levin’s body was found less than half a mile from the Atlantic County 610 bridge, authorities said.
