Bronx sanitation worker struck by SUV driver, critically hurt in caught-on-video crash

A city sanitation worker’s legs were crushed, leaving him critically hurt, when an SUV driver rammed into him, pinning him against his garbage truck in a caught-on-video Bronx crash, officials said Tuesday.

Ahmad Ladson, 32, was picking up trash on rain-swept Colgate Ave. near Watson Ave. in Soundview when a 40-year-old woman driving a Toyota Highlander rammed into him about 8 a.m. Monday, cops said.

Ladson was pinned against the edge of the sanitation truck’s hopper.

Surveillance video obtained by the Daily News shows Ladson facing his truck with his back turned to the SUV as it careens into him.

After being pinned between the two vehicles, Ladson, who was wearing a yellow reflective jumpsuit, falls to the ground and rolls into the middle of the street, screaming in agony.

Medics took Ladson and the driver to Jacobi Medical Center, where the city trash hauler remained in critical condition Tuesday.

“He’s lucky they were able to save his leg but still has a very long recovery ahead of him,” Finbar Devine wrote on Facebook, encouraging people to donate to a GoFundMe for the sanitation worker’s recovery. “He lost a lot of blood and is still listed in critical but stable condition.”

Ladson has three children and has worked for the Sanitation Department for about two years, according to the GoFundMe, which collected more than $20,000 for his recovery in 24 hours.

The SUV driver suffered minor injuries and has not been charged as cops continue to investigate the crash.
