Katherine Heigl jokes she ‘used to be a doctor’ in bladder leak ad

Trust her, she used to play a doctor.

Katherine Heigl poked fun at her “Grey’s Anatomy” days in a new ad for bladder leak products.

The “Firefly Lane” actress, 46, plays herself in the 60-second spot that dropped Monday for the brand Poise, which makes women’s incontinence products.

In the commercial, Heigl is seen having lunch with a friend and her pal’s 10-year-old son.

After Heigl tells a joke, her friend laughs — a little too hard — and becomes visibly mortified.

“I peed,” she admits to Heigl.

“Happens to the best of us,” the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum responds, brushing it off.

The incident is enough to distract the 10-year-old from his tablet and declare, “That’s so embarrassing,” prompting Heigl to school the child.

“You’re gonna deny your mother a moment of mirth just because she got the giggle dribble? And, by the way, it’s kind of your fault,” she tells the kid, who then asks why he’s to blame.

“Well, I’m so glad you asked,” she says. “You see, when we have kids, the pelvic floor or the muscles and ligaments that help support the bladder can weaken. And then, of course, with perimenopause and menopause, there’s a reduction in estrogen, which can cause further control issues.”

“But luckily, I have a Poise,” she adds, pulling out one of the brand’s products.

“Perfect for my leaking bladder,” the mom says to her son, clearly trying to make him uncomfortable.

“You’re embarrassing yourselves,” he tells her.

“No, we’re embarrassing you,” the mom replies, delighted.

Heigl says embarrassing one’s children is “part of a mother’s purpose in life.”

The friend then puts jokes aside and asks Heigl, “By the way, how did you know all that stuff?”

“Well, I used to be a doctor,” the actress responds deadpan, alluding to her time playing Dr. Izzie Stevens on “Grey’s Anatomy” from 2005 to 2010.

“No, you didn’t,” the kid tosses back, leading to a stare-off between the two that closes the commercial.

In coordination with the ad launch, Heigl spoke about her own experience with perimenopause and “the giggle dribble” in a new interview published on Wednesday

Perimenopause, which literally means “around menopause,” refers to the period in which women begin the transition to menopause. Also called the menopausal transition, perimenopause can start at different ages, per The Mayo Clinic.

“When I talk with my friends, we all laugh about it,” Heigl told People.

“So I was like, ‘Oh no, that won’t do,’” she continued. “I am not okay with anybody out there feeling any kind of shame or embarrassment around this because [perimenopause] is such a natural progression of female existence and I want us to not take it too seriously and to be able to laugh about it.”

“I will happily get loud about this if it will help other women feel comfortable,” she added.

A mother of three, Heigl shares two adopted daughters — Naleigh, 15, and Adalaide, 12 — and a son —Joshua, 7 — with husband Josh Kelley.
