John Lennon’s oldest son opened up about a terrifying health scare.
Julian Lennon, 61, whom the late Beatles icon welcomed with his first wife, Cynthia Lennon, revealed that he had been treated for skin cancer a second time.
Posting to his social media on Wednesday, Dec. 18, Lennon also announced that he underwent an emergency operation on two areas on his skin, shoulder and forearm, and one turned out to be melanoma.
Lennon shared that he got an urgent call from his doctor before flying to Los Angeles to appear on “Good Morning America” and do press for his new book, “Life’s Fragile Moments.”
“My lovely dermatologist [was] the one who caught and operated on my mole skin cancer a few years ago, and literally saved my life,” he wrote as the caption of the post, which included several black-and-white photos before and after the operation.
“Anyway, after having just finished GMA, I received a message from Dr Tess, with some urgency to return to Los Angeles, as I had two locations on my skin, shoulder and forearm, one of which was melanoma, that should be operated on asap!!” Lennon explained.
“So instead of going home to put my Christmas tree up and happily finish the year off, relaxing at home, I flew directly back to Los Angeles, after all my work in New York was done, and went directly from LAX airport, to surgery.”
Lennon shared that the operation was successful; however, he’s unsure if the biopsy results will arrive before or after Christmas.
He thanked his doctors “for being able to coordinate this surgery at such short notice, but for once again, hopefully saving my life.”
“One can never be too confident in circumstances like this, but we all believe that Dr Tim has saved the day… So fingers crossed for now.”
Lennon encouraged his followers to get checked out.
“It only takes a short while to do so, and you may just be saving your own life, at the end of the day,” he said, “so please, for the sake of yourself, your family and friends just go to your [doctor] and do what must be done,” he wrote.
“I love life and I want to live for a very long time and this is one way, and a choice, that could determine your future.”
In 2020, Lennon revealed he had a mole on his head removed after a biopsy showed it was cancerous.
Earlier this week, photos circulated of Lennon and his brother, Sean Ono, 49, hanging out at the Dakota, the New York City apartment building where their famous father was fatally shot in front of in December 1980.
Lennon has never been married and has no children.
