A Connecticut man wanted for murder was publicly identified Sunday by police, who described him as “armed and dangerous.”
Nelson Garcia, 47, is wanted in connection with the murder of Steven Vega, 27, on Saturday in Bridgeport, local Fox affiliate WTIC reported. Investigators quickly identified Garcia as a suspect, but he has not been located since the deadly shooting.
Cops said Garcia is known to frequent the north and west sides of Bridgeport, about 50 miles north of Central Park, according to local NBC affiliate WVIT. He was described as a 5-foot-2 man weighing about 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Investigators said Garcia shot Vega at a single-family home in Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon, the CT Post reported. Cops arrived around 4:30 p.m. to find Vega outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died Sunday morning.
Police said Garcia and Vega began fighting inside the residence before the argument spilled outside and turned deadly, according to local CBS affiliate WFSB. Cops described the shooting as “an isolated incident where the victim knew his attacker.”
Garcia’s address was listed as 242 Lake St., the same location as Saturday afternoon’s shooting. Vega’s killing was the first recorded homicide of the new year in Bridgeport, a city that only recorded 12 homicides in 2024 despite leading Connecticut in population.
