Gen Z craze for sweatpant jeans causes Gap pants to sell out

The hottest jeans of the season aren’t even denim.

Sweatpant jeans have taken the internet by storm, as fashionistas fawn over the pants that provide both comfort and style.

After the pricey Rag & Bone Miramar trousers — dubbed the “Gen Z jegging” — went viral last year, fans have discovered a dupe to the $238 pants at Gap for less than $90.

On social media, shoppers are championing Gap’s “Sweatpant Baggy Jeans,” which the brand has called “jean adjacent” and billed as “the new way to wear your 24/7 sweats uniform.”

Their popularity, however, has caused the sweatpant-jean hybrids to sell out online in both colorways, although the men’s version is still in stock in limited sizes.

“Run don’t walk to Gap for these sweatpant jeans!!” one content creator wrote on a TikTok video.

“When I saw these from @gap, I ordered IMMEDIATELY!!!” another TikTokker wrote online.

“POV: now you can wear sweatpants to work and no one will know,” someone else said, adding that she’ll “be wearing these every day.”

Wearing a sweatpants-jeans hybrid to the workplace leans into the larger shift towards more comfortable office attire, a post-pandemic phenomenon.

Liz Teich, founder of The New York Stylist, previously told The Post that workwear has become “much more casual” in recent years, revealing that some clients even sport leggings to the office.

“It seems like anything goes these days,” she said at the time.

Gen Z employees in particular have been slammed for their seemingly inappropriate outfits for the office.

One TikTokker was shocked when viewers said her matching silk blouse and trousers looked like sleepwear, despite the popular trend of wearing pajama-like pants in public.

On social media, corporate fashionistas revealed that they were donning linen, cotton or satin pajama-looking pants to their 9-to-5, while high schoolers wear similar attire to school.

Even celebrities have joined the fad, with the likes of Blake Lively and Beyoncé donning matching sets for red carpet and star-studded appearances.

Gen Zers can now achieve a similar look with a comfy Canadian tuxedo using the Gap sweatpant jeans paired with the matching sweatshirt denim bomber jacket, which retails for $129.

As one creator put it: “@Gap denim sweatsuit is the perfect back-to-office outfit.”
