A Macy meltdown.
Macy Gray stormed off the stage after she was eliminated from “The Masked Singer UK” on Saturday night’s episode.
The 57-year-old singer, who was disguised as “Toad in the Hole,” ended up in the Sing-Off against her unknown celebrity competitor disguised as “Bear.”
The judges — Mo Gilligan, Maya Jama, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, and guest panelist Suranne Jones — decided to save “Bear” instead of “Toad.”
After learning she was eliminated, Gray suddenly turned and walked off the stage, much to the surprise of the judges and host Joel Dommett.
“What is going on?” said Dommett, 39.
“Okay, I’m told Toad in the Hole will return to the stage,” Dommett announced, as Gray, still in her costume, walked back on stage.
The Grammy Award winner took off her disguise to reveal her true identity, before she did an awkward Q&A interview with Dommett.
“Did you have fun on the show?” the British TV host asked Gray, who unenthusiastically replied, “Yeah.”
“You know, I’ve been singing for a long time, and now I’m a toad,” Gray also said in the interview.
Dommett shared a clip of the incident on his Instagram and wrote “Lol” in his caption.
Viewers bashed Gray on social media for briefly storming off the reality show.
“Macy Gray…that was embarrassing,” one fan wrote on X.
“I can’t stop laughing at Macy Gray, dressed as a giant toad in the hole, raging at being voted off,” another fan said.
“Did anyone else think Macy Gray wasn’t gonna do one last song for them,” someone else tweeted.
A different viewer called Gray “a sore loser.”
“Macy Gray’s tantrum for being kicked off masked singer is so embarrassing like babes you’re dressed as a toad in the hole grow up,” added another critic.
Dommett addressed Gray’s behavior in an interview with Paddy McGuinness on BBC Radio 2 on Sunday.
“In my professional career – I love Macy, she is incredible, great voice – but I have never witnessed anything more funny than a 6ft toad storming off. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” he said.
“You can’t be vexed when you’re dressed as a toad,” Dommett added.
Dommett also said that Gray’s early elimination “is a win-win situation because you get the same money and you don’t have to do anything else.”
This was Gray’s third time competing on a version of “The Masked Singer.”
In 2021, she competed on Season 3 of Australia’s edition of “The Masked Singer” as “Atlantis.” She was eliminated on the sixth episode.
Two years later, Gray was disguised as “Sea Queen” on “The Masked Singer US” Season 10. She made it to the finals and finished in 4th place, behind Janel Parrish, John Schneider, and winner Ne-Yo.
