A man found dead in a pool of blood in the back of an ambulette parked in the Bronx worked as a driver of the vehicle — and was beaten to death, police said Tuesday.
Cops declared the 64-year-old driver’s death a homicide after learning he died from “trauma to the body,” according to a police source.
Colleagues at Marquis Ambulette were trying to locate the victim when they found his ambulette parked on Castle Hill Ave. near Howe Ave. in Castle Hill around 10:30 a.m. Monday, the police source said.
When they opened the back of the ambulette they found the victim lying face down in the back in a pool of his blood, cops said. His name was not immediately released.
Ambulette workers immediately called the police, who began an investigation.
It was not immediately clear how long the driver had been out of contact with his company.
No arrests have been made.
A manager at Marquis Ambulette, located in Inwood, L.I., declined to comment on the investigation when reached by the Daily News.
