David Schwimmer once ‘served’ Rod Stewart divorce papers

David Schwimmer had several jobs before finding success in Tinseltown.

The “Friends” actor, 58, recalled a short-lived summer career that put him in front of rocker Rod Stewart while appearing on Monday’s episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

“One summer after my freshman year in college, I was just looking for work, and my mom said, ‘Well, you can be a process server for me,’” Schwimmer told Colbert, 60. “My mom was a divorce lawyer, and I was the guy who would pop out of the bushes and serve you divorce papers.”

At the time, he was only 18 and said he felt like “James Bond” because he’d often get tipped off on the locations of where those receiving the papers may be.

However, one person he served divorce papers to stands out.

“Once, oh man, thank goodness I’ve never run into him since, but I served Rod Stewart,” the actor shared, revealing, “I don’t even know if he knows. I don’t think he knows.”

The revelation sparked a hilarious reaction from Colbert, who joked, “You could theoretically run into Rod Stewart sometime! Now he knows to punch you.”

In 1984, when Schwimmer would have been 18, the “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” hitmaker was divorcing his first wife, Alana Stewart, after the pair tied the knot in 1979.

In 2021, the Grammy winner told People that he was “too young” to get married at the time, despite being 34.

“When I told my dad I was getting married, he said, ‘You’re far too young,’” Stewart recalled. “He was right. I still had a lot of living, partying, drinking and shagging to do.”

But that didn’t stop him from marrying in the future.

Stewart wed model Rachel Hunter in 1990; however, ever nine years of marriage, the couple pulled the plug on their union.

“When I got married a second time to Rachel [at 45], I really thought she was the one — but I got that wrong,” Stewart recalled.

The “The First Cut Is the Deepest” singer ended up meeting his current wife, Penny Lancaster, just days later. They married in 2007.

“Rachel broke up with me on a Monday evening, and it was heartbreaking. No one leaves Rod!” Stewart told the outlet. “But that Saturday night, I met Penny at the Dorchester Hotel in London. The bass player in my band, Carmine, said, ‘Listen, you’ve just come out of a long nine-year marriage. You’re not ready yet.’ I nearly strangled him!”
