Man found dead in his Queens apartment was shot, well liked by neighbors

A man found dead in his Queens apartment more than two months ago was shot in the head, cops confirmed Thursday.

Carlos Buritica, 45, was found on the bedroom floor of his upscale apartment on 110th St. near 15th Ave. in College Point at 10 p.m. Oct. 20, 2024, cops said.

Buritica, who was known to walk his French bulldog Yoda around the neighborhood, had moved into the building about a year before his death, neighbors said.

“Our dogs played together and he was a nice person,” said a neighbor who declined to give her name. “We were very very shocked (by his death). We thought this building was very tranquil. You cannot hear the neighbors at all.”

At first police thought that the Columbian native died from a drug overdose but they quickly realized he had been shot, police sources said.

The city’s Medical Examiner signed off on the cause of death on Tuesday, officially making his death a homicide, police said.

NYPD posters about the shooting death were plastered around the neighborhood in late October with cops offering a $3,500 reward for any information about the slay, which remains unsolved.

Buritica’s neighbor recalled the police presence that showed up at their building after his death.

“Initially we thought it was a disease,” said the neighbor. “Then we got 20 police cars and a lot of detectives and a crime scene unit van that was here parked. So we all started to wonder what happened and police started to question us.”
