She may have a string of hit songs, but singer Camila Cabello was faced with a largely empty arena at a festival on the weekend.
The US pop star, 27, headlined the AT & T Playoff Playlist Live! concert in Atlanta, Georgia, with a photo since going viral showing a large number of vacant seats in the city’s State Farm Arena.
“That s–t was EMPTY,” one person wrote on X.
Another claimed only 30 percent of tickets for the festival, in which Yung Miami also performed, had been sold prior to doors opening.
A third added they feared Cabello had entered her “flop” era. Ouch.
Cabello did have support from U.S. singer Mod Sun, who praised her for going forward with the show.
“99% percent of artists would’ve canceled the show + put out a “mental health” statement,” he wrote on X. “She just gained my respect by still performing. That show meant the world to the people in the crowd that night. EMPTY SHOWS ARE STILL SHOWS.”
Shooting to fame in 2012 as part of the girl group Fifth Harmony, which went on to become one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, Cabello forged a successful solo career after departing in 2016 with hits including Havana, Never Be The Same and Senorita, a collaboration with then-boyfriend Shawn Mendes.
But her latest studio album, C, XOXO, which was released in June last year, failed to have a significant impact.
While receiving some positive reviews among music critics, the album, her fourth, became Cabello’s first not to make it to the top 10 on the US Billboard 200. Her single I Luv It peaked at number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100.
It’s been six years since Cabello last embarked on a headline tour, her Never Be The Same debut solo tour in 2018-2019, which sold out within 24 hours.
While she planned to hit the road with the Romance tour in 2020 to coincide with her second album release, dates were never rescheduled after it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Cabello recently went public with her new billionaire boyfriend, Henry Junior Chalhoub.
The couple were spotted getting hot and heavy while canoodling in the ocean in St. Barts earlier this month.
