CT man falls asleep at wheel with infant in car, under the influence

A Connecticut man was arrested Wednesday after falling asleep behind the wheel while he was under the influence with an infant was in the car.

State police said they responded to the scene in Woodbury around 3:10 p.m. for a report of a man slumped over in the driver’s seat in his car, according to NBC Connecticut. The Honda Ridgeline was reportedly running but stopped at a stop sign.

Upon arriving, police found the man unresponsive and a 6-month-old child in the back passenger seat. Troopers said they broke the front passenger window to get access and arrested the man. The baby was evaluated by emergency personnel and returned to its legal guardian.

The man was identified Thursday as 46-year-old Jason Perillo, reported ABC affiliate WTNH. He was found in possession of narcotic paraphernalia and failed a field sobriety test, police said.

Perillo was charged with risk of injury to a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia and operation of a motor vehicle with a child passenger while under the influence. He was released on $7,500 bond and is set to appear in court next month.

The Connecticut Department of Children and Families is investigating the incident. It’s unclear how Perillo and the child are related.
